Lahore: Following the recent heavy rains in Punjab, a flood situation has arisen in various districts, on which the Punjab government has immediately become active. Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari says that the protection of people’s lives and property is the first priority of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
In her statement, Uzma Bukhari said that record rains occurred in Chakwal, Jhelum, and Rawalpindi, after which reports of flooding in rivers and filling of low-lying areas were received. She said that the district administration, PDMA, and Rescue 1122 teams took immediate action and started relief activities in the affected areas.
According to the Information Minister, Pakistan Army personnel also took full part in the rescue operations and shifted dozens of people to safe places.
The details of the rescue are as follows:
- 450 people from Rawalpindi
- 298 people from Jhelum
- 209 people from Chakwal
- 64 more citizens from Jhelum
The Pakistan Army and relief agencies carried out the rescue.
Uzma Bukhari said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz personally supervised the relief operation and has directed all agencies to provide all possible facilities to the affected people immediately.
She appealed to the citizens to be cautious in view of the rain and possible floods and to contact the rescue agencies immediately in any emergency situation.
