ISLAMABAD : Pakistani consumers are facing a slight increase in petrol prices as the federal government has announced new prices that will be applicable for the next fortnight from June 1, 2025. The adjustment marks a change after a period of stable or slightly reduced fuel costs.
According to a notification issued by the Finance Division, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs 1 per liter, taking the new price to Rs 253.63 per liter. This is higher than the previous price of Rs 252.63 per liter.
In the move that provides some relief to various sectors, the price of High Speed Diesel (HSD) will remain at Rs 254.64 per liter. This stabilization in diesel prices is particularly beneficial for the transport and industrial sectors that rely heavily on this fuel. Light speed diesel and kerosene prices have also been maintained at their current levels.
The decision to revise fuel prices was taken on the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and in consultation with the concerned government ministries. Although the increase in petrol price is minimal, it is an indication of the government’s ongoing efforts to manage its fiscal position and respond to global market dynamics.
In related news, OGRA has also announced a reduction in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for June 2025. The price of LPG has been reduced by Rs 4.62 per kg, making an 11.8 kg cylinder cheaper by Rs 54.6. The revised consumer price of an 11.8 kg LPG cylinder is now Rs 2,838.31. This reduction is mainly due to the reduction in the Saudi Aramco Contract Price (CP), which has a direct impact on local LPG prices.
