Weekly inflation report released in Pakistan, chicken expensive while flour and vegetables cheap

Karachi: The Federal Bureau of Statistics has released a weekly report on inflation in the country, according to which a slight increase in the inflation rate has been seen in Pakistan. According to the report, the inflation rate increased by 0.37 percent on a weekly basis, while inflation on an annual basis was recorded at 4.70 percent.
The report states that a mixed trend was seen in the prices of essential commodities during the past week. Overall, 13 items became expensive while 11 items became cheaper, while the prices of many items remained stable.
Chicken was prominent among the items with increasing prices. During the week, the price of chicken increased by Rs 35.48 per kg. Similarly, the price of bananas was also recorded to increase, where the price per dozen increased by more than Rs 7.
The price of garlic also increased and became expensive by about Rs 6.50 per kg. In addition, beef, mutton, jaggery and cigarettes were also among the items that became expensive.
An increase in prices was also seen in the energy sector. The price of a domestic LPG cylinder increased by about Rs 200, while petrol and diesel prices also increased.
According to the Statistics Bureau, the price of petrol increased by Rs 8 per liter during the week, while the price of diesel increased by Rs 5.16 per liter.
On the other hand, the reduction in the prices of some items provided partial relief to consumers. According to the report, the price of tomatoes decreased by Rs 7.14 per kg, while the price of eggs decreased by Rs 20 per dozen.
Similarly, onions became cheaper by Rs 4 per kg and potatoes by about Rs 1.67 per kg.
According to the report, the price of a 20-kg bag of flour also decreased by Rs 54.53. In addition, dal mash, dal masoor, sugar and vegetable ghee are also among the items that became cheaper.
The Statistics Bureau said that the prices of 27 items remained stable last week, including bread, fresh milk and yogurt.
According to experts, this trend of inflation fluctuations may continue in the coming weeks and the government’s economic measures may affect it.
