Investors adopted a cautious approach at the end of the trading week at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), due to which the market closed with a negative trend on Friday. Selling pressure in a few major sectors including banking, energy and technology weighed on the performance of both the major indices, while limited buying could not change the overall trend.

According to official market data, the KSE 100 index closed at 171,021.20 points, down 718.25 points, or 0.42 percent. The index hit a high of 172,718.67 points and a low of 169,512.88 points during the trading session. The total trading volume of shares of companies included in the index stood at 228.53 million shares, indicating continued investor activity.

According to the data, the KSE 100 index has recorded a decline of 5.15 percent since the beginning of the financial year 2026-27 and a decline of 1.74 percent since the beginning of the calendar year, indicating that the market is still going through a phase of volatility.

Looking at the performance of individual companies, Adamji Insurance (AICL), TRG Pakistan, Meezan Bank, Engro Holdings and Fauji Cement tried to support the market by adding positive points. However, this improvement did not prove to be enough to end the overall selling pressure.

On the other hand, United Bank, National Bank of Pakistan, Systems Limited, Habib Bank and Fauji Fertiliser Company were among the stocks that showed significant negative performance. The selling trend in these companies maintained significant pressure on the benchmark index.

The KMI 30 index, which consists of Islamic shares, also closed in the negative zone. The index fell by 756.80 points to 240,633.87 points. Its highest level during the trading session was 243,340.31 points, while its lowest level was 238,625.83 points. The total trading volume of shares of companies included in the index was recorded at 93.99 million shares.

In KMI 30, Meezan Bank, Engro, Fauji Cement, Fauji Foods and Pakistan Refinery Limited also played a positive role, while Systems Limited, Pakistan Petroleum Limited, OGDCL, Mari Energies and Fauji Fertiliser Company were the prominent stocks that negatively impacted the market.

According to market experts, there was a trend of profit-booking by investors at the end of the business week. According to them, the uncertainty in the global financial markets, fluctuations in crude oil prices, expectations regarding upcoming economic indicators and financial results of companies kept investors cautious.

Analysts say that if economic stability, positive corporate results and investor confidence increase in the coming days, then there may be possibilities of improvement in the market again. However, investors are expected to keep a close eye on the global economic conditions and local economic policies in the short term.

According to business circles, it is more appropriate to view the normal fluctuations that occur on a daily basis in the Pakistan Stock Exchange in the context of long-term investment. Experts say that when making investment decisions, it is important to comprehensively assess fundamental economic indicators, companies’ financial performance, and risks to avoid unnecessary risk.
