Crude oil prices have once again reached a critical juncture in the global commodity market. Brent crude oil is close to the psychological threshold of $100 per barrel. This situation has also created a cautious attitude in global financial markets.
According to market data, WTI crude oil is at $94.19 per barrel while Brent is at $99.29. Arab Light was recorded at $92.11 per barrel. Coal’s Richards price was reported at $129.9 per tonne.
Rising tensions in the Middle East have become a major factor behind the recent surge in oil. Brent rose for the fourth consecutive session in the global market. Investors are concerned that increasing tensions in the region could affect energy supplies.
This situation is of particular importance for Pakistan. The country imports a large part of its energy needs. The increase in global crude oil prices is likely to increase import bills. This may later have an impact on fuel prices and inflation.
Investors also remain interested in precious metals. According to the data, gold was at $4,421 per ounce and silver at $66.88 per ounce. Globally, gold is also at a strong level due to geopolitical risks.
In the Pakistani market, yesterday, the KSE-100 index closed at 172,642 points. The index was seen with limited volatility around the same level in recent trading activity.
On the other hand, the open bid of the dollar in the interbank market was recorded at Rs 277.37 and the open offer at Rs 277.57. This shows that there has been no major change in the rupee and dollar market for the time being.
Overall, the global oil price, gold trend, dollar level and stock market performance have become important indicators of Pakistan’s economic direction. If oil prices increase further in the coming days, its possible impact on import costs and inflation will remain the focus of investors.
