PM expresses grief over flood disaster in Gilgit, calls for urgent measures on climate emergency

Gilgit: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid a day-long visit to Gilgit-Baltistan and expressed deep concern over the losses caused by the recent rains and cloudbursts. He said that Pakistan is among the 10 worst countries in the world affected by climate change.

The Prime Minister clarified during the meeting that Pakistan has no major role in the environmental crisis, but is facing the effects the most. He issued instructions to the Ministry of Climate Change and NDMA to expedite immediate relief and rehabilitation measures in the affected areas.

PM Shahbaz Sharif, while announcing the establishment of a solar park and the inauguration of a Danish school in Gilgit, said that he would personally supervise these projects. He said that we will have to adopt a long-term strategy to avoid the increasing risks and losses every year.

Earlier, the Governor and Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan gave a detailed briefing to the Prime Minister on the flood disaster, law and order, and ongoing development projects.
