On the occasion of International Human Rights Day, President Asif Ali Zardari has said in his special message that the development of society is possible only when the dignity, equality and justice of every individual are ensured in practice.

The President said that Islam considers human dignity and respect for humanity as fundamental principles, while the Constitution of Pakistan provides rights to every citizen on the basis of equality. According to him, Quaid-e-Azam also dreamed of a state where human dignity is given priority above differences.

Asif Ali Zardari said that the government is firmly committed to protecting human rights; however, concrete and continuous steps are indispensable to further support the vulnerable sections – including women, children, minorities and special people.

He said that promoting social tolerance and mutual respect is the need of the hour, and for this purpose, the participation of civil society, institutions and all stakeholders is necessary and essential.

At the end of the message, the President paid tribute to the United Nations for highlighting the human rights agenda at the global level and said that we must all work together to create a Pakistan where every citizen can live a life free from fear, discrimination, and oppression.
