An important meeting was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding the national airline, in which a detailed briefing was given on the privatization of PIA, future strategy and business plan.
It was informed in the meeting that a decision has been made to privatize 75 percent of the national airline’s shares, however, a basic condition has been set in this process that the name and theme of the airline will not be changed so that its identity is maintained.
According to the business plan presented in the briefing, a target has been set to increase the number of airworthy aircraft in the national airline’s fleet from 18 to 38 by 2029. According to officials, the national airline is currently operating flights to more than 30 cities, while this number will be increased to more than 40 cities in the next few years.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed to complete all stages of privatization with speed and transparency and said that an action plan should be prepared immediately for the inclusion of new and active aircraft in the airline’s fleet.
The announcement said that the Prime Minister also issued orders to ensure the timely departure of the national airline’s flights.
