Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Convenes in Islamabad for Zilhajj Moon Sighting

Lahore: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is set to convene in Islamabad today, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, to observe the crescent moon of Zilhajj 1446 Hijri, which will determine the dates for Eid ul Adha celebrations across Pakistan. The meeting will be chaired by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad, with zonal committees also gathering at their respective headquarters for the moon sighting.

According to the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), the new moon was born at 8:02 AM on May 27, but its age by sunset will be approximately 11 hours and 34 minutes, making its visibility unlikely across the country. Consequently, the first day of Zilhajj is expected to fall on May 29, with Eid ul Adha anticipated on Saturday, June 7.

Eid ul Adha, observed on the 10th day of Zilhajj, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. The festival is marked by the ritual slaughter of animals, with the meat distributed among family, friends, and the needy. The official announcement regarding the moon sighting will be made following the committee’s meeting today.
