Lahore: Taking a big step in the public transport sector, the Punjab government has taken the final decision to run electric buses across the province. The aim of this project is to provide modern, environment-friendly, and uniform travel facilities to the public, which will not be limited to big cities but will be extended to remote areas of the province.
On the special instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Transport Department has been given a target to start electric buses in all districts by December 2025. Under this project, it was earlier planned to purchase only 500 buses, but now this number has been increased to 1100.
Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar Khan confirmed that this project will not only be for big cities like Lahore, Rawalpindi, or Faisalabad but also provide buses in relatively backward districts like Bahawalnagar, Attock, and Dera Ghazi Khan. He said that according to Maryam Nawaz’s vision, every district of Punjab is equal, and every area should have equal access to modern travel facilities.
