The Government of Punjab has enforced Section 144 across the province, placing a temporary ban on outdoor drone operations for a period of 30 days. The move comes after the Punjab Home Department issued a formal notification highlighting security concerns.
The notification states that outdoor drone flying has been prohibited to prevent potential misuse and to ensure peace and stability across Punjab. Authorities believe that unregulated drone activity can create security risks, especially in crowded public places and sensitive areas.
Despite the outdoor ban, limited permission has been granted for indoor events. Small drones may be used inside wedding halls and marquees during ceremonies. However, the responsibility for safe handling and compliance with safety standards will lie entirely with the event organizers.
Officials clarified that law enforcement agencies and intelligence bodies are exempt from this restriction. These departments may continue using drones for official security operations and surveillance purposes.
A spokesperson for the Home Department said the step has been taken in the interest of public safety and to maintain law and order. The administration and police across Punjab have been instructed to strictly enforce the ban and take action against violators.
Legal experts explain that Section 144 empowers authorities to impose temporary restrictions in emergency situations to prevent unrest or threats. Under this provision, gatherings, activities, or specific actions can be restricted for a limited period.
The government has urged citizens to follow the instructions and avoid flying drones in open areas during the restriction period. Any violation may result in fines or legal proceedings under the law.
Authorities will review the situation after the completion of 30 days and decide whether the restriction needs to be extended or lifted.
The Punjab government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring public protection and maintaining peace throughout the province.
