The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken an important decision to further improve the Mobile Device Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS). The move aims to make the device identification, registration, blocking system, and its management more effective.

According to a statement issued by the PTA, this decision will prove beneficial not only for the authority but also for mobile network operators in the operations of DIRBS. This will also facilitate the users in timely registration of mobile devices and payment of taxes, which will result in prevention of the use of illegal and smuggled mobile phones.

The PTA clarified that now any unregistered mobile phone will be usable on the network for a maximum of 60 days. If the tax is not paid within the stipulated period, the concerned phone will be automatically blocked again.
