ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi has approved the appointment of Justice Baqir Najafi, a senior judge of the Lahore High Court, as a judge of the Supreme Court.
According to sources, Justice Baqir Najafi’s appointment was approved by the majority opinion, with PTI members Barrister Gohar and Ali Zafar also voting in his favor.
During the meeting, the commission also unanimously approved the deletion of the previous dissenting opinion against Justice Shujaat Ali Khan and Justice Baqir Najafi.
The meeting further approved the appointment of four retired judges as members of the Judicial Commission, including:
Retired Justice Maqbool Baqir (Sindh High Court)
Retired Justice Shaukat Siddiqui (Islamabad High Court)
Retired Justice Shakirullah Jan (Peshawar High Court)
Retired Justice Nazir Langoo (Balochistan High Court)
