Islamabad: In a major step towards ending tensions in the region and promoting peace, a ceasefire agreement has finally been reached between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Defense Minister Khawaja Asif confirmed the news in a statement, saying that the two neighboring countries have agreed to respect each other’s territory and immediately end incidents of terrorism.
The agreement was reached during talks in the Qatari capital Doha, where Qatar and Turkey played the role of mediators. According to the Qatari Foreign Ministry, the two countries have also agreed to hold more meetings in the next few days and form a permanent mechanism that will ensure lasting peace in the region.
Khawaja Asif said in his message on the social networking website X (formerly Twitter), “Now there will be no terrorism from Afghan soil on Pakistan.”
He added that another important meeting will be held between the delegations of the two countries in Istanbul on October 25 to discuss in detail more points of the peace agreement.
According to analysts, this development could pave a new path for stability in the region, especially at a time when the threat of terrorism remains a major challenge for both countries.
