Lahore: In a move aimed at passing on the benefits of lower fuel prices directly to the public, the Punjab government has announced a 5% reduction in fares for public and goods transport across the province.
The new fare rates are being displayed at all bus stands and depots. The district administration and the transport department have been directed to ensure strict compliance. The government has also issued a clear warning, stating that transporters charging higher than the new rates will face severe penalties.
In the initial phase of enforcement in Lahore, authorities impounded 10 vehicles, issued challans for 7, and imposed fines totaling Rs. 80,000.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the government’s top priority is to provide relief to the common person and that “exploitation will not be tolerated under any circumstances.” She stated that the benefits of reduced petroleum product prices must be directly transferred to the public.
