Control of sugar prices, Punjab government sets prices in phases

Lahore: In order to keep sugar prices stable, the Punjab government has taken a decisive step and announced prices in phases for the next four months. The notification issued by the Cane Commissioner of Punjab has officially fixed the ex-mill and retail prices of sugar.

According to the notification, the price of sugar will be increased by Rs 2 per kg every month between July 15 and October 14, 2025. Under this decision, the ex-mill price will be increased from Rs 165 to Rs 171 per kg, while the retail price will be increased from Rs 173 to Rs 179 per kg.

This decision was made in light of the agreement between the federal government and the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association, which aims to ensure an uninterrupted supply of sugar and its availability to consumers at reasonable rates.

It may be recalled that the price of sugar per kg in the country had recently reached Rs 200, which raised serious concerns from consumers and traders. Officials say that large exports of sugar put pressure on the local market, due to which prices went out of control.
