Islamabad:In view of the continuous increase in sugar prices and possible artificial shortage, the federal government has taken a major step and taken control of all sugar stocks across the country.
According to officials of the Ministry of Food, 1.9 million metric tons of sugar available across the country have now come under the direct control of the government, while the names of the owners of 18 sugar mills have been put on the Exit Control List (ECL). According to sources, the complete list of those included in the ECL will be released in the next few days.
Under this initiative, the government has deployed FBR agents at the warehouses of all sugar mills, while the track and trace system has also been activated to monitor the movement of sugar.
Top officials of the Food Ministry say that this step had become indispensable to stop sugar hoarding and keep prices stable. The government has made it clear that strict action will be taken against those who create an artificial crisis.
