Flood situation in Punjab, Maryam Nawaz orders to speed up relief and rescue operations for affected districts

Lahore: An important meeting was held in Lahore under the chairmanship of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on the flood situation in which the latest report of the affected districts was presented. The meeting was informed that the districts of Kasur, Okara, Pakpattan, Vehari, Bahawalnagar and Bahawalpur have been severely affected by the flooding of the Sutlej River.

According to the report, 72 villages and 45,000 people were affected in Kasur district, while 12 villages in Pakpattan, 23 in Vehari, 75 in Bahawalnagar and 15 villages in Bahawalpur were submerged. In total, more than 150,000 people and 35,000 livestock were shifted to safe places.

The meeting was briefed that the services of the army have been called in for rescue operations in Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Faisalabad, Okara and Sargodha. Medical relief camps have been set up for the flood victims, where more than 2,600 people have been treated so far.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz issued instructions on the occasion to utilize all resources and take emergency measures in hospitals.
