Karachi: According to the latest report of the Federal Bureau of Statistics, flour prices continue to increase across the country, and the most expensive flour is being sold in Karachi, where a 20-kilogram bag has reached Rs 2,100.

The report says that during the past week, flour prices increased by up to Rs 300 in Karachi, Larkana, and Khuzdar. Similarly, a 20-kilogram bag of flour became more expensive by Rs 280 in Hyderabad and Sukkur, while this increase was recorded at Rs 210 in Quetta.

Citizens of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Bannu, and Multan were also affected, where a 20-kilogram bag of flour became more expensive by up to Rs 200 and is being sold for Rs 2,000. Flour is available at Rs 1720 per 20 kg after increasing by Rs 120 in Lahore, while an increase of Rs 160 was recorded in Sargodha, Rs 166 in Bahawalpur, and Rs 83 in Gujranwala and Sialkot.

According to economists, this increase in flour prices is a big challenge for the government, as it is not only increasing pressure on the domestic budget but is also expected to further increase the prices of food items. Experts have suggested that the situation can be brought under control by importing wheat and providing timely subsidies.
