Fuel Price Hike Triggers Transport Fare Surge in Rawalpindi; RTA Approves Up to 37% Increase

Public transport fares have been increased on a large scale in Rawalpindi after a record increase in the prices of petroleum products, which has caused a wave of concern among the citizens. The Regional Transport Authority has approved an increase of 25 to 37 percent for various routes and services.

According to reports, inter-city AC transport has been affected the most, where fares have been increased by 37 percent, while the rates of goods transport have been increased by 35 percent.

Transporters say that not only fuel but also the continuous increase in the costs of engine oil, spare parts and vehicle repairs are also the main reasons for this decision. On the other hand, the public has termed the increase in fares as a new wave of inflation.

According to experts, this increase will further put pressure on daily travel, delivery of essential goods and overall inflation, especially daily commuters from Rawalpindi and Islamabad will be the most affected.
