Helmet Made Mandatory for Both Motorcycle Riders in Lahore; Rs 5000 E-Challan for Violation

The provincial traffic police has implemented a new and strict law for motorcycle riders to ensure the safety of citizens, under which it has now been made mandatory for both the people sitting on the motorcycle to wear helmets. In case of violation, an online e-challan will be issued and a fine of Rs 5000 will be imposed.

DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah told a press briefing that several accidents were reported in the city in which the people sitting in the back seat suffered head injuries and lost their lives, so now the traffic rules are being tightened. According to him, most drivers wear helmets, but the person sitting in the back ignores safety measures, which is not only dangerous but also against the law.

Peer Muhammad Shah specifically instructed riders providing freelance and online services — such as food delivery boys and taxi bike services — to carry additional helmets with them. He said that if a rider does not provide a helmet to his passenger or companion, he will also be held directly accountable through an e-challan.

According to traffic officials, the helmet requirement is not only a matter of law enforcement but also aims to protect citizens from the deadly consequences of accidents. Officials say that in view of the increasing accidents in the city, stiff fines will attract citizens to abide by the law.

According to traffic safety experts, such laws have significantly reduced head injuries in accidents globally. Experts say that this decision in Pakistan will increase the sense of responsibility among citizens and is expected to reduce deaths in traffic accidents.
