Islamabad: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics has released the latest weekly inflation figures, according to which there has been a slight decrease in the inflation rate in a week, but many common items have become significantly more expensive. The report says that the overall weekly inflation rate decreased by 0.01 percent, while on an annual basis this rate was recorded at 2.30 percent.
According to the statistics, during the last week, the prices of 18 items increased, 8 items became cheaper and the prices of 25 items remained stable.
Talking about vegetables, the price of tomatoes increased by 19.8 percent, which increased the rate per kilogram to Rs 21, while onion became 11 percent more expensive to Rs 7 per kilogram. Similarly, a 20-kilogram bag of wheat flour increased by Rs 140, chicken by 3.6 percent, garlic by 2.3 percent and sugar by 1.2 percent. The price of sugar increased by an average of Rs 2.15 per kg.
Other items that became more expensive included eggs, LPG, broken basmati rice and fresh milk.
According to the report, the public also got some relief during the week, as the prices of high-speed diesel, electricity rates, dal mash and dal moong saw a decrease.
