Severe Cold Grips Northern Areas as Lahore Tops Air Pollution Rankings

The weather remained cold and dry in most parts of the country during the last 24 hours, while severe cold affected normal life in the northern areas. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature was recorded in Leh at minus 9, Skardu at minus 6, Gilgit at minus 4 and Kalat, Dir and Astore at minus 3 degrees Celsius.

On the other hand, Lahore has once again become the most polluted city in the country in terms of air pollution. According to the Air Quality Index, the city recorded an overall AQI of 383, which is considered extremely hazardous to health.

According to health experts, severe air pollution can pose serious risks to respiratory, eye and heart patients, while the elderly and children have been advised to avoid unnecessary outings.
