Lahore launches pilot project of modern automated electric tram system

Lahore: A pilot project of the latest electric tram system has been launched in Lahore, which is equipped with technologies such as modern auto navigation and sensor-based guidance. In this initial phase, the service will be operated in manual mode under the supervision of the driver, while in the future, a fully automated (self-driving) system will be introduced.

Officials say that in the pilot phase, this service will be provided free of charge to the public, while the assembling of the tram is ongoing at the Ali Town depot. This tram can run without a track and can cover a distance of 25 to 27 km on just 10 minutes of charging.

This tram will run on Canal Road from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura and each tram will have a capacity of more than 250 passengers. It has facilities like Wi-Fi, CCTV, air conditioning, and smart charging system.

Officials say that if this project is successful, it will be expanded to other cities as well, which will help in making Lahore’s transport system modern and eco-friendly.
