Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took a test ride on Pakistan’s first urban electric train — the Super Autonomous Rapid Transit (SRT).
During the test ride from Ali Town to Muslim Town, Maryam Nawaz reviewed the train’s performance and facilities. Citizens on Raiwind Road and Canal Road expressed happiness after catching a glimpse of the SRT.
The Chief Minister said, “Now, good news can be expected for the people of Punjab every day. The modern transport system in Lahore will enhance the beauty of the city. Soon, this system will also be introduced in Gujranwala and Faisalabad.”
According to a government spokesperson, this train is also running successfully in countries like Turkey, China and Abu Dhabi. The SRT has 3 coaches (capacity for 4), can carry 320 passengers, and can travel 40 km on a single charge.
The train is equipped with air conditioners and other modern facilities. The Chief Minister said that this project will not only reduce environmental pollution but also reduce traffic congestion.
