The National Assembly has overwhelmingly passed a resolution condemning the alleged misbehavior and threatening behavior of a senior journalist by the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Rules and regulations were suspended for presenting the resolution in the house. The resolution directed the Interior Ministry to provide full protection to the concerned journalist, while the FIA’s cybercrime wing was ordered to take action against all those who threatened the journalist or threatened him on social media.
The resolution said that the incident in Adiala Jail involved not only indecent talk but also threatening behavior, which is against the fundamental principles of freedom of the press and expression.
On the other hand, PTI members opposed the resolution and created a ruckus in the house, tore copies of the agenda and protested around the speaker’s dais.
PTI leader Barrister Gauhar said that the party has always recognized the role of the media and has stood by it. “We want to know the complete facts, which is why we consider this resolution premature,” he said.
