NEPRA has completed the public hearing on the request for Fuel Price Adjustment (FCA) for the month of September, which was filed by Central Power Purchasing Agency (Guarantee) Limited (CPPA-G). The hearing was mainly held at the NEPRA headquarters under the chairmanship of Member Law Amna Ahmed.
During the hearing, questions and comments were raised by CPPA-G, concerned distribution companies (Discos), the business community, journalists, representatives of the Ministry of Energy and the general public. NEPRA has said that the request proposed a reduction of about 37 paise per unit; however, this change will be applicable for only one month.
The CPPAG said the reduction will apply to all customers of the DISCOs—including K-Electric—except for Lifeline, Protected Customers, Prepaid Customers and Electric Vehicle Charging Stations.
Nepra added that it has listened to the views of all stakeholders and will now issue a detailed decision after further scrutiny of the data. A DISCO spokesperson also explained in this regard that fuel price adjustments depend on global fuel prices and changes in the generation mix, and if global fuel prices are lower, consumers may benefit from a reduction in their bills.
This hearing is an important part of the transparency and accountability process between consumers, regulators and the government, and all eyes are now on Nepra before the decision is made.
