New restrictions on restaurants to control smog in Punjab

The Punjab government has taken an important decision to reduce smog and environmental pollution and ordered strict action against hotels and food cooking centers. According to the Environment Department, a ban has been imposed on all restaurants where coal, wood or charcoal are used across the province.

DG Environment Punjab Imran Hamid Sheikh has directed all hotels and barbecue points to install suction hoods within fifteen days. He says that immediate action will be taken against centers that spread smoke, grease or bad odor in open places.

According to officials, in case of disobedience of the order, fines will be imposed on the spot under environmental laws and cases may also be registered. The DG Environment has clarified that EPA teams are present in the field and the process of checking and sealing is also underway.
