OGRA proposes reduction in gas prices; big relief expected for consumers

Sui Gas

There is a possibility of a significant reduction in gas prices for domestic and commercial consumers across the country, as the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has sent its recommendations regarding the new prices to the federal government.

According to an OGRA spokesperson, a 3 percent reduction in the average gas price has been proposed for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines (SNGPL), while the reduction for Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has been reported to be 8 percent. After the proposal, it has been recommended to set the new average price for Sui Northern at Rs 1804.8 per MMBTU and for Sui Southern at Rs 1549.41.

The spokesperson said that the federal government has 40 days to give a final decision on the slab basis. If the government does not respond within this period, OGRA’s decision will automatically come into effect.

According to the organization, this possible reduction in prices, if approved, will be directly passed on to consumers, which is expected to reduce the pressure of rising gas bills, especially in the winter season.
