In view of the possible change in the gas sector in Pakistan, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has started considering applications related to gas sales from private companies, for which a public hearing has been scheduled for January 16.
According to the applicants, private companies want to supply gas to consumers by purchasing it directly from gas fields, while permission has been sought to use the Sui Northern and Sui Southern networks for transmission.
OGRA officials say that the purpose of the public hearing is to assess the impact of allowing the private sector to sell gas on the system and to what extent consumers can benefit from it.
According to regulatory sources, all stakeholders, including consumers and government agencies, will be given the opportunity to present their concerns and suggestions during the hearing, after which a decision will be made to issue or deny the license.
