The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has scheduled the 5G spectrum auction for March 10, 2026, a major milestone in the introduction of 5G services in the region.
The auction will be held across various frequency bands, including 700 MHz, 1800 MHz, 2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, 2600 MHz and 3500 MHz — bands considered suitable for 5G networks, with excellent coverage, high-speed data and improved latency.
According to telecom industry analysts:
Ahead of the 5G auction, nearly 80 per cent of mobile devices are 5G-ready, which will improve access to the modern network for consumers.
Experts say that local handset manufacturers may get a chance to ramp up production of 5G phones in April–June, which will significantly boost the digital market and broadband connectivity.
However, some industry stakeholders have also mentioned challenges such as device availability and pricing, as the availability and price of 5G handsets will be a major deciding factor for the public.
