Police operations, 39 people arrested for spreading false information on social media

Police have arrested 39 people from different cities in a major operation against spreading false and provocative information on social media.

According to the police, coordinated operations were carried out in Lahore, Kasur, Kamoki, Gujranwala and Sheikhupura, which included people who were sharing misleading content on platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp.

According to sources, 39 people were detained from Lahore alone, while action was taken against several suspects in other districts as well.

Police officials say that 87 more social media accounts have been traced and identified. These accounts are alleged to be used to spread public unrest and rumours.

Sources said that authorities have prepared a list of more than 200 people suspected of being involved in such online activities. Legal action will be taken against them after verification.

State agencies were also mobilized in Muridke on Monday night under similar allegations. Authorities say that strict legal action will be taken against anyone who uses social media to spread hatred, fear or violence.
