Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has warned that enemy forces are trying to use water as a weapon, but India cannot be allowed to unilaterally withdraw from the Indus Waters Treaty.

Speaking during a visit to the National Emergency Operation Center, the Prime Minister said that the government is committed to the timely completion of important water projects, including the Diamer-Bhasha Dam, so that the country’s water reserves can be increased.

He said that the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) is a multi-purpose national institution that played a significant role in hazard awareness and provision of timely information after the devastating floods of 2022.

The Prime Minister said that the NDMA has been brought into line with modern requirements, and it is the need of the hour to consider the recent tragedy in Swat above politics. He also directed the NDMA to prepare a comprehensive report on the Swat accident.
