The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken an important decision for mobile users and announced that all SIMs that remain inactive for 180 consecutive days will be closed. According to officials, the aim of this move is to improve the performance of the mobile network and eliminate illegal activities through unused SIMs.
The PTA says that various criminal elements use inactive or unregistered SIMs for fraud and scams, which not only affects ordinary users but also causes financial losses to telecom companies and other institutions. In this context, the authority has decided to make the SIM management system more effective.
According to the authority, this decision will be equally applicable to all mobile companies operating across the country. This process will be completed in a completely transparent and fair manner so that no user is unfair.
It has been further informed that the SIMs to be deactivated can be reintroduced in the market later and allotted to new users. The aim of this strategy is to activate unused numbers and ensure better utilization of available resources.
PTA has instructed users that if they want to prevent their SIM from being deactivated, then use it regularly. Making calls, sending messages or using mobile data will be enough to keep the SIM active.
Officials say that this step will not only improve security but will also help in providing more stable and quality service to users. PTA has assured the public that a complete awareness campaign will be launched regarding this decision so that no one faces any difficulties.
