Independent candidate Khurram Zeeshan, backed by PTI, won the by-election for the general Senate seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to unofficial results, Khurram Zeeshan secured 91 votes, while PML-N candidate Taj Muhammad Afridi got only 45 votes.
137 members of the provincial assembly participated in the election process. Provincial Election Commissioner Saeed Gul supervised the polling as the returning officer. According to the Election Commission, one vote was rejected while eight members did not vote.
The seat fell vacant when former federal minister Shibli Faraz was disqualified after being convicted for his involvement in the May 9 incidents.
Shibli Faraz tried to stop the by-election by filing a petition in the Supreme Court, but the constitutional bench rejected his appeal, after which the election process was completed on time.
