ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has officially announced that the Pakistan Television (PTV) license fee will no longer be collected through electricity bills nationwide. This landmark decision will save over 40 million electricity users billions of rupees every year.
The Prime Minister shared this update while inaugurating the Apna Meter, Apna Reading Power Smart Mobile App in Islamabad. He explained that removing the Rs 35 monthly fee is part of the government’s strategy to reduce the financial burden on households and businesses.
For decades, the PTV fee was charged to all electricity consumers, whether they watched PTV or not. Ending this practice will benefit domestic, commercial, and industrial users alike.
During the ceremony, the Prime Minister emphasized that energy sector reforms are underway to improve transparency and curb electricity theft. He assured the public that protecting consumer rights remains the government’s top priority.
Consumers across Pakistan have welcomed the relief, calling it a positive step in times of rising inflation and high utility costs.
