Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to formulate regular rules and regulations to prevent unsafe installation of solar panels after several accidents that occurred during the recent stormy season. The aim of this step is to protect human lives and property and prevent such incidents in the future.
Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Irfan Ali Kathia has issued a letter in this regard to the Energy Department, Local Government, and all Deputy Commissioners and Commissioners.
According to the DG PDMA, the main cause of 70 percent of the accidents that occurred in the recent storms was substandard and unsafely installed solar panels, which fell from the roofs due to strong winds and fell to the ground, causing loss of life and property.
The government has directed that only certified and standard solar panels will be installed in the future. Along with this, all existing solar systems will be immediately inspected to ensure their safety, structure, and standards.
Furthermore, the PDMA has directed all relevant agencies to prepare clear and workable SOPs related to the installation and repair of solar panels, which will be strictly implemented.
This decision is a significant step towards promoting safe and sustainable use of energy and protecting citizens from potential hazards.
