At a seminar organised on the anniversary of Khawaja Rafique Shaheed, Senator Rana Sanaullah of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) highlighted the political challenges in the country and the threats to national security. He said that the attack in Islamabad on May 25, 2022, was a turning point in the political landscape, and without it, the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government could not have been formed.
He said, “History is a witness that no country can develop in chaos and disorder. Our defense installations were attacked, and the evidence of this is in front of you.”
Terming the incident of May 9, 2022, as a conspiracy, he said that political instability arises when parties refuse to engage in dialogue. “Political parties should engage in constructive dialogue; otherwise, instability will continue and the country’s development will be affected.”
Referring to the debate on the validity of the February 2024 elections, Rana Sanaullah asked, “Were the 2018 elections flawless?”
Referring to the statements of the PTI leadership, he said, “The threats of imprisonment by the founder of PTI are also a part of history now. The government repeatedly invited for talks but they were not accepted.”
Referring to the Jafar Express incident, Rana Sanaullah said that external elements, especially Afghanistan and India, were behind terrorism.
The senator said that parties that follow constitutional laws are not stopped from holding rallies, while those involved in spreading chaos are banned. He said that economic development is possible only as a result of real political stability.
Finally, Rana Sanaullah said, “It is important to identify those who create obstacles to political and economic stability and together remove these obstacles.”
