The country’s power distribution companies have once again requested the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) to increase electricity prices. According to official sources, the hearing on this request will be held on November 6.

Sources say that the request has been made to increase the rates by justifying capacity payments, operation and maintenance costs and losses in electricity transmission. If this increase is approved, an additional burden of Rs 8.41 billion will be imposed on consumers.

It should be noted that earlier on October 14, electricity was also increased by 8 paise per unit, which was based on the August fuel price adjustment.

According to the ongoing decision of NEPRA, this additional burden on prices will also be applicable to K-Electric consumers and the additional amount will be collected in the bills of October.

It was also informed that the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) had requested an increase of 19 paise per unit in the fuel adjustment for August, on which the decision was reserved and its notification was issued later.
