In an important meeting chaired by Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, proposals related to the organization of Basant Festival were considered, where the administration recommended celebrating Basant on a limited scale in specific areas of Inner Lahore, Shahi Qila, Mochi Gate, Bhati Gate and Rang Mahal.
In the meeting, the administration presented the Safe Basant Plan to the government, according to which the use of sharp metal, nylon and chemical strings will be completely banned, while only safe strings made of cotton or starch will be allowed.
The plan also suggests that barcodes should be made mandatory on all kites and strings so that their identification is possible. Strict action will be taken against unregistered kite sellers and a full crackdown will be carried out against those who manufacture or sell unsafe strings.
The Safe Basant Plan also includes a recommendation to impose a complete ban on the entry of motorcycles during Basant, while the use of safety antennas and neck covers has been made mandatory for motorcyclists. In addition, it has been proposed to install safety nets and wire protection systems on main highways to prevent accidents.
According to the district administration, these proposals have been sent to the government, and only after final approval will the official announcement of holding a limited Basant festival in inner Lahore be made.
