The Sindh government has taken another major decision towards digitizing public services and officially launched the Civil Registration Management System (CRMS) mobile application. On Wednesday, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the new app, which aims to move basic civil records — births, deaths, marriages and divorces — from paper-based to a fully digital system.

According to official documents, the system has been developed at a cost of Rs 471.254 million and will be operational in 30 districts and 769 health centers of the province in a phased manner, where 85 percent of births will be registered digitally in government and private hospitals.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Minister said that the Sindh government, in partnership with NADRA, has developed this system according to the latest digital standards. According to him, it will also integrate immunization, disease surveillance and patient data, which will prove to be an important basis for future health projects.

The Chief Minister said that the province is taking its digital governance journey forward rapidly. He reminded that low-income families were not able to pay NADRA fees, due to which there was a shortage in birth and death registration. The government has decided to remove this obstacle and pay all the fees by the province itself.

Expert Opinion

According to digital policy experts, this decision of the Sindh government is a historic development for the civil registration system in Pakistan. Experts say that this move will not only make civil data accurate but also make future education, health and social planning more targeted and effective.

At the event, NADRA DG Aamir Ali Khan gave a briefing on the technical features of the app, while an additional agreement was also signed between the Local Government Department and NADRA.
