Sugar Prices Drop Across Pakistan After Government Crackdown

sugar

After government measures against artificial inflation and profiteering, a clear decline in sugar prices is being recorded across the country, the effects of which are more noticeable in big cities, especially Karachi and Punjab.

According to market sources, the wholesale price of sugar in Karachi, which had reached Rs 200 per kilogram some time ago, has now come down to Rs 150 per kilogram, while due to better supply and strict supervision, the price has come down further to Rs 146 per kilogram.

Similarly, wholesale sugar prices in Punjab have also fallen to Rs 145 per kilogram, which traders are calling the result of government supervision and actions against hoarding.

According to economists, prices could fall further if the current monitoring system remains in place and the sugarcane crushing season continues uninterrupted. They say that ample reserves and timely imports have reduced pressure on the market.
