ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert till July 10 in view of the threat of heavy rains, flood situation, and landslides across the country. According to the agency, water levels are expected to increase in the Kabul, Indus, Chenab, and Jhelum rivers during the next two days, while low-level flooding is likely in Tarbela, Kalabagh, Chashma, and Taunsa.
The spokesperson said that there is a risk of flooding in Marala, Khanki, Mangla, Swat River, Panjkora, and other rivers. Mountain rivers and streams in districts like Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Jhal Magsi, Qila Saifullah, Zhob, and Musakhel may face heavy flow. Landslides have been feared in Gilgit-Baltistan as the water level in the Hunza, Shegar, Khunjerab, Baraldo, and Saltoro rivers rises, while the same situation may occur in many areas of Azad Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Bagh, and Muzaffarabad. The NDMA has directed the public to avoid rivers, bridges, and flooded roads, while residents of low-lying areas should shift their valuables and livestock to safe places.
The agency has also issued instructions to keep emergency kits, food, water, and medicines ready. The NDMA has appealed to the public to use the “Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App” for the latest information, while all the concerned agencies have been directed to ensure immediate measures to deal with any emergency.
