Trading Corporation issues first tender for import of 300,000 tonnes of sugar

Islamabad: The government has taken practical steps to stabilize sugar prices in the country, with the Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) issuing the first tender for the import of 300,000 metric tonnes of sugar.

According to official documents, sealed bids have been invited from international suppliers and manufacturers by July 18, 2025. According to the tender, no bids of less than 25,000 tonnes will be accepted.

As per government policy, this import will be done entirely through the public sector and inspection will be mandatory after shipment of sugar. Also, the imported sugar should be of high quality and coarse grain.

The document further states that the federal government has exempted all taxes on sugar import so that prices can be controlled and relief can be provided to consumers.

It should be recalled that last week, the federal cabinet approved the import of 500,000 metric tons of sugar to stabilize sugar prices, which is the first practical step.
