Rawalpindi: During a surprise visit to the General Bus Stand Pir Wadhai in Rawalpindi, Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan has ordered strict action against transporters charging excessive fares from passengers. MNA Tahira Aurangzeb and DC Rawalpindi were also present with him.

The transport minister himself asked the passengers whether they were being charged the fixed fare or not. While reviewing the cleanliness situation, he said that providing convenience to the public is the top priority of the government. He said that as per the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, fares are being monitored across Punjab.

So far, Rs 1.2 million in excess fare has been refunded to passengers, and fines of more than Rs 2.5 million have also been imposed. He said that fares are being strictly monitored even on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha; no one will be allowed to loot.

The minister clarified that overloading and overcharging will not be tolerated under any circumstances. In case of complaint, passengers can immediately contact 1071 and get redress. He added that the transport system is being digitalized; route permits and vehicle fitness will be fully monitored.
