The reasons for the impact of mobile phone and internet services across the country have been revealed. According to a government document, currently about 9,000 mobile sites are facing network availability problems across the country.
The report states that prolonged load shedding, right-of-way issues, and incidents of power theft and sabotage in some areas have severely affected the network performance. The document also reveals that the quality of mobile service in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Gilgit-Baltistan has deteriorated to an alarming level.
According to officials, despite the high claims of the operators, the network availability has still not reached the standards stipulated in the licence. Meanwhile, the PTA received more than 8,000 complaints related to the service in the first half of the year, out of which 99.17 percent of the complaints were resolved.
It has also been reported that 11 cases related to PTA fines are currently pending in the courts, due to which some actions are being delayed.
