World Post Day is being celebrated across the world, including Pakistan, today, with the aim of creating awareness among the public about the postal system and its historical and social importance.
In the current era of technology, although mobile phones, email and courier services have limited the role of traditional post, the role of post offices is still indispensable in the transfer of money, utility bills and collection of taxes.
This day reminds us of the time when a letter was not just paper but a source of emotions, feelings and relationships. Messaging through mail strengthened social ties and reduced distances.
In the early years after the establishment of Pakistan, British-era stamps were used in the country, however, later the Postal Department issued more than 1,300 stamps on various national, historical and cultural occasions.
According to the Postal Department, even today, millions of citizens are benefiting from the services of post offices, which are not only a reminder of the past but are also considered an important public convenience institution in today’s era.
