Lahore: Keeping in mind the convenience and autonomy of women teachers, the Punjab School Education Department has launched a free e-bike scheme, which will not only provide ease of travel but also promote gender equality in the teaching sector.
Candidates under the scheme will be selected through a completely transparent points system, which takes into account six important factors. Two points will be given for every kilometer of distance from school to home, 20 points for widowed or divorced teachers, 15 points for women with husbands living abroad, and 10 points for teachers with husbands working in other cities. Similarly, 20 points will be given for posting in border or hard-to-reach areas, 15 points for rural areas and 10 points for urban areas.
Driving license and educational qualification have also been given importance, while 2 points have been allocated for seniority every year. If the points of two candidates are equal, the older candidate will be preferred.
This scheme will bring safety, punctuality and convenience in the daily journey of women teachers, as well as recognition of their hard work and services. This step will bring about a positive and lasting change, especially for women teachers posted in remote areas.
