Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmail Baqai has confirmed that the proposal for a four-nation meeting in Tehran with Pakistani, Saudi and Turkish officials was presented by Field Marshal Seyyed Asim Munir during his recent visit to Iran, which was accepted by the Iranian leadership.
During the press briefing, Esmail Baqai said that Iran is hosting a four-nation meeting today, in which senior officials from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey are participating. According to him, this meeting is an important step towards increasing cooperation in the regional security system.
The Iranian spokesman said that the meeting will discuss issues related to regional security, Israel’s expansionist policies and the US war against Iran based on common interests.
He made it clear that the results of the elections in Israel are not important for Iran. According to him, Tehran’s focus is on security in the region and protecting its national interests.
Regional cooperation and diplomatic contacts
Esmail Baqai said that trust and cooperation between regional countries are essential for establishing lasting peace and security in the region. According to him, the four-nation meeting can pave the way for advancing joint efforts and broader cooperation for regional security.
He added that regional stability is possible only when the internal capabilities, political intentions and security-related needs of the countries in the region are taken into account.
According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman, a delegation from Qatar also arrived in Tehran yesterday. The visit was part of ongoing consultations with regional countries and diplomatic contacts under Qatari mediation.
Meeting of Mecca Treaty Member States
The participation of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkey in the Tehran meeting is of particular importance, as all three countries are parties to the Mecca Joint Defense Treaty signed in August this year.
Iran’s participation in the meeting provides an opportunity for direct communication between the four countries on regional security issues. However, the final outcome of the meeting, possible joint actions and details of any formal consensus are yet to be revealed.
The progress of diplomatic contacts will determine to what extent these efforts help reduce tensions in the region and strengthen regional cooperation.
