ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has announced the launch of direct flights to Barcelona and Milan, further expanding its air operations in Europe. The decision was taken on the directions of Federal Minister for Defence Khawaja Asif to facilitate travel for the large overseas Pakistani community living in Europe.
The resumption of European flights became possible when the UK removed Pakistan from the air safety list in July and lifted a five-year ban. On this development, the British High Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the aviation authorities of both countries and expressed interest in traveling with Pakistani airlines.
According to sources, after the ban was lifted, PIA immediately started three weekly flights to Manchester, while in the next phase, flights from Islamabad and Lahore to London and Birmingham will be restored.
According to experts, these measures will not only facilitate the overseas community but also strengthen Pakistan’s aviation industry and the country’s economic activities.
